In case you have only been watching, listening and reading the mainstream media and basket weaving for the past week you should be aware that there was a major revelation in the “science” of Man Made Global Warming. Just quickly, a file named FOIA (believed to be short for Freedom of Information Act) was placed on a Russian server and sent to Real Climate, an AGW supportive web site. From there it went around the world. I received my announcement last Friday from Albert Jacobs, a retired geologist and spokesperson for the Friends of Science in Alberta Canada. I downloaded the 62 megabytes of compressed data and expanded it to the 162 megabytes including over a thousand emails and 79 data files. These files are from the University of East Anglia Climate Research Unit (CRU) and describe a subversive effort to corrupt climate data, control what papers appear in the scientific journals, trashing reputations of those who disagree and even getting scientists fired simply because they disagreed with their theory. It has been verified by several individuals, with direct involvement in the emails from both sides of the argument, that the information is genuine. That includes Phil Jones the Director of the CRU.
The emails are in text format so are quite difficult to read. (For convenience, there is a searchable version here.) They are also between scientists so one needs to understand the science, know who the players are and have knowledge of the external activities that transpired in the rest of the world at the time the emails were being written. Although I was able to discern much of this as I read through the tangled web of discussions, Willis Eschenbach, a climate researcher had a role in some of the discussions. It seems Mr. Eschenbach discovered that there were grids in Russia, if I recall correctly, that did or did not have temperature measuring stations. The rule is, that if you have 2 grids that have stations with a grid in between that doesn’t, you use the average of the adjacent stations for the missing data with some exceptions. Apparently Eschenbach discovered that the station-less grid had a higher temperature than either of the adjacent grids. When he asked Phil Jones for an explanation he got stonewalled. What followed was convincing University officials not to accept Freedom of Information Requests from anyone associated with Climate Audit, a blog headed up by Steve McIntyre who discredited the Michael Mann Hockey Stick Chart and pointed out that 1998 was not the warmest year in the 20th century as shown by NASA data. And systematically deleting emails associated with the IPCC 4th Assessment report. And, then they …. Coming from Montanans for Global Warming is this cute ditty that was played on the Rush Limbaugh show. It puts a pretty good perspective on the whole event to the tune of “Dragging the line” by Tommy James and the Chandelles. It is a cartoon called “Hide the decline” You’ll be singing this one for weeks.
If NBC, CBS MSNBC and CNN in the US, the CBC in Canada, not to mention the BBC in the UK can’t bring themselves to devote any time to Climate gate, leaving it up to Fox to carry the water, perhaps the Russians can be counted on to report and analyze this revealed hoax. If you said yes, you would be right.
As I mentioned in one of my Examiner articles, it appears the Russians do not have this prohibition against exposing the sceptic philosophy. I seems strange because, of all the world’s countries, Russia is making a killing on carbon credits. The reason? Their economy is tanked. Incidentally, that is the only way that cap and trade (tax) can be profitable. I guess that is what they call a green economy.
Anyway, they have put a lot into this news cycle including a debate between a Russian who contributed to the IPCC’s AR4 and Piers Corbyn of Weather Action, long range weather forecaster using solar lunar properties. Piers has a special interest as he was the subject of a few of them. In one letter to an American, Phil Jones called Piers an “utter pratt” (English slang for a fool) who thought he knew everything about global warming. He quipped that because Britain’s population is about 25% of the US that where we have four, “Pat Michaels/Fred Singer/Bob Balling/Dick Lindzen”, Britain only has one. That puts Piers is some mighty fine company. Jones also refers to Piers betting on his predictions but fails to mention that the bookies in London will no longer take the wagers because Piers is right too often unlike Jones and company. So here is the debate. Note that Piers kept quite cool until the Russian IPCC author, Dr. Aleksen Kokorin, says global warming is spreading malaria. Russia had 10,000,000 cases in an epidemic. Funny the Russian didn’t know that. Then all hell broke loose! Piers sent this to the discussion group It’s the Sun to show there really was an epidemic.
Here, here and here are a few more spots from RT, Russia Today. They are actually pretty good and somewhat cautious. The points are well made. More honest and open than I would have expected. It almost seems that they are playing both sides and watching the fun.

I thought that some of the information was a bit intimidating for most, including me, so I have made an effort to include as many video links as possible to keep this entertaining. Reading the emails can be very tedious and time consuming. It is better that there is a searchable version and some visual commentary. Hope this has helped. Also, including some participants (victims), in the article demonstrates that this information really is genuine, as it clearly is.
I had a few minutes to write a letter to the climate change staff member for our Senator Lieberman. I asked for his response to this new information and called for a Senate investigation as there are a few Americans implicated in the emails as well as writing them. Some have made sworn testimony to Congress that has other implications. I also said that it would be clear who was involved in this scam as they would dismiss it and ignore it. The Senator has, so far, ignored my request, as I have not received a response. I’ll let you know if I hear anything and let the chips fall where they may. Senator Lieberman has refused to debate the issue. He has only been interested in the side of the information that is related to these emails. He has called for Cap and Trade (Tax) legislation that would hurt our economy. Of all the people in our country, he needs to make it clear where he stands on this. The silence is deafening.
